Collection: Ceramics

I work with many natural materials and so clay and glazes are a natural part of what I do. I came to ceramics through drinking 888 bowls of ceremonial matcha from a bowl I bought in Kyoto. Through this project I met the man who created my bowl, Kyoshitsu Sasaki, Shoraku III. He taught me the ancient technique of Kurinuki, or carving objects out of clay. And so most of what I create is made using that technique. I also work with various clays that usually are not combined. In many cases I care about where the clays came from. I often work to overcome the natural limitations of a material. And I glaze my objects often several times.

It takes weeks to years to complete any of the ceramic objects I make. Some of them are not intended for daily use, some are not intended to be used at all.
Some are drawings with underglaze specifically designed to be fragile.
