Gotland 2011 (2011-2021) is a series of originally 16 color photographs distilled with the help of an AI algorithm

In 2011 I had the privilege to stay on Gotland, in a small house. I took hundreds upon hundreds of photographs, hacked wood, made fire, avoided (countless) mosquitoes.

It was a complex time and I realized a lot about myself and the people around me. Not all good. In fact, it was the end of a life chapter and the beginning of a new one. The rumblings of change were subtle. The echoes were gut-wrenching.

I looked at the photographs again and again over the years and they did not in any way matched the reality I had experienced.

And so in 2011 I finally found a way to visually heal that experience and its record.

The resulting work is divided into 3 sets.

One set represents the atmosphere of the outer place, as it existed through the elements for centuries.

The second set are images that are probably closest connected to the actually visible on the island, the green, the landscape.

The third set are images that are the closest representation of how I personally felt when on the island. They are an inner world, or the abstract representation of that.

Particles of light were turned into images were turned into particles of data, were turned into particles of images, were turned into representations of emotion.
