The inner world #14

Gotland 2011 (2011-2021) is a series of originally 16 color photographs distilled with the help of an AI algorithm

In 2011 I had the privilege to stay on Gotland, in a small house. I took hundreds upon hundreds of photographs, hacked wood, made fire, avoided (countless) mosquitoes.

It was a complex time and I realized a lot about myself and the people around me. 

I looked at the photographs again and again over the years and they did not in any way matched the reality I had experienced. And so in 2011 I finally found a way to visually heal that experience and its record.

The resulting work is divided into 3 sets.

This set, 'The inner world', are images that are the closest representation of how I personally felt when on the island. They are an inner world, or the abstract representation of that. A strange dance of darkness and complexity.

One set shows what protected Gotland and what made it such a good place for ancient Vikings to live there. This is the most peaceful set, as I believe in the power of harmony with nature, ancient people were able to achieve.

Another shows a bright and sunny outside world that I seemed to be able to photograph, the pictures are perhaps close to what we see with our eyes, except when approached they dissolve.
