‘Midnight Seal’ is a limited edition print from the ‘Singapore Seal’ edition of serigraphs. A1 in size, this serigraph is printed on acid free, FSC® Certified, museum grade 300gsm matte paper. This work was printed in an edition of 5. Print size is 594 x 841mm.

The artwork implies the feeling of a blue sky somewhere near the full moon, at midnight.  I play with the emotion of the sky we rarely see and also with the interpretation of a colour first given a name at the beginning of the 20th century.

These limited edition artworks were hand pulled under my supervision in a small studio in Bischofsheim, Germany. The paints used for the printing process are all prepared only for this specific print run, quite typical for my works on paper, where almost every image has its own unique material mix. To achieve the desired amount of color strength on this particular paper, the drawings were printed four times, with various drying times in-between. The paper used is from Italy. It is pulp free, Acid Free, FSC® Certified, Museum grade and weighs 300g per square meter. It has a matte finish and a natural white tone.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The print is based on my iconic “Seal” adaptive drawings. It is one of the prototypical drawings which start with a small cell, a circle, a beginning and then grow into a form that feels best in a specific idea context, a moment, a place. My seal drawings are based on a form that I feel is stored in my body’s memory. The drawing show my typical hand guided brush strokes. The ink drawing was adjusted to work best as a serigraph. The process from original drawing to final print took several months in the summer and fall of 2022. All of the prints are signed, numbered and stamped at the lower edge of the sheet. The little red round stamp dates the prints and it is the exactly same stamp I use on many of my drawings made in that particular year. The prints carry the 2022 stamp.
